Crunchy Crickets and Nuclear Cauldrons

Chanthaburi has a decently sized outside market offering alittle bit of everything from the usual bootleg hollywood movies to snacks like crickets and other creepy crawly fried goods. Me and rick hit up the park first where they had a monument of King Taksin on horseback.

This is the king who not only defended Thailand from the burmese invasion but also fought directly in the major battles. There are all kinds of statues and offerings in front of the statue to show respect.

Being at the market and seeing the edible bugs just gave me an itch...I had to try them. They had crickets, juicy worms, a huge bug that resembled a striped praying mantis on stereoids/power-thirst.

My troubles came the moment i ordered a typical noodle soup dish and proceeded to douse it with a thai traditional hot sauce that consists of fish sauce and minced peppers.

i got a bit carried away and put enough of this sauce to kill a guinea pig (edible delicacy in Ecuador). i face became flush red and sweat trails lined my face like I was taking a shower. It got to the point where the hearing in my left ear got muffled as if my ear was full of water (no joke). Let's just say that i'm much more frugal with that spice now, jaja.

some tiger beer sealed the deal after that and we met another americpan from Seattle that has been living in Thailand for eight years.
